Dark Horse Comics published the graphic novel Mandala in May 2014, created by The Thirteen. Written by Stuart Moore, former editor at Vertigo and writer of EGOs, Wolverine Noir, X-Men Origins, Spider-Man, and Zodiac (with Stan Lee). Illustrated by Bruce Zick, Disney and Pixar concept artist, and artist for Thor, The Zone Continuum, and Atomic Legion (written by Dark Horse Comics’ Mike Richardson).
“Mandala” is full of metafictional goodness and crosses genres constantly. A simple comparison to The Matrix doesn’t do it justice in my opinion. It’s an entirely different beast because it manipulates the medium of comics. -- Bloody Disgusting
Merkaba, the prequel graphic novel to Mandala and also created by The Thirteen, was published by Comixology in November 2015.
